Perineal erythema as first sign of Kawasaki syndrome.

Abstract

Kawasaki syndrome (KS) is an acute, self-limited, systemic vasculitis of the medium-sized vessels of unknown etiology, affecting infants and young children but rarely reported in adults too. KS presents characteristic clinical finding. Perineal eruption in KS is uncommon, but it has frequently been described as the first sign of the disease. We report the case of an incomplete form of KS characterized only by fever, unilateral cervical lymph nodes and perineal eruption to draw attention of the clinician for a potentially life-threatening disease that could be easily misdiagnosed.
