Familial molluscum contagiosum.

Abstract

A 4-year-old boy was firs visited due to the presence of a proliferative lesion on the left front region, close to the hair line (Fig. 1). The tumor had arisen a few months after the onset of kindergarten, had grown rapidly during the first 2 months and then had remained stable. Physical examination showed a 3 mm in size, skin-colored papule, which at its top had a small crust (Fig. 1, left inset). Its consistency was elastic. A benign neoplasm was diagnosed and its removal under local anesthesia was programmed. In the mean time the mother pointed out a similar lesion on her eyebrow (Fig. 1) for two months and this fact supported the diagnosis of a contagios tumor. The lesion of the child was excised by curettage and its histological examination showed the typical structure of molluscum contagiosum (Fig. 1 right inset). The final diagnosis was familial molluscum contagiosum.
