Localized juvenile pityriasis rubra pilaris.

Abstract

A 16-year-old girl was first observed due
to the presence of asymptomatic lesions of the face and
limbs lasting from one year. Her family and personal history
was positive for atopy. On physical examination,
erythematous lesions with sharp margins on the face,
figured in preauricular region, thin scaling more evident
on the preauricular region (Fig. 2), follicular lesions on
the extensor surface of the forearms (Fig. 1) and keratoderma
with clear-cut borders on the palmar and plantar
region (Fig. 3) were observed. The histological examination
(Fig. 4 and inset) showed orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis,
sometimes basket-shaped, persistent granular
layer, acanthosis, perinuclear vacuolization in isolated
keratinocytes and modest lymphohistiocytic infiltrate in
the papillary dermis.
These data led to the final diagnosis of localized juvenile
pityriasis rubra pilaris.
