Abstract

The Author reviews the surgical options for congenital melanocytic nevi, particularly the pro and contra of full thickness excision, dermabrasion, curettage and laser therapy. All these treatments are often physically and mentally exhausting for the patient and his/her family. Moreover, the final esthetical result is not always significantly better as compared with the initial condition. Finally, a more realistic evaluation of the malignancy risks associated with congenital melanocytic nevi leads the Author to choose the type of therapeutical intervention exclusively on esthetical considerations.
