Kerion requires full dosage griseofulvin.

Abstract

Kerion self-healed also before the griseofulvin introduction, but after many months and with scarring alopecia. Today kerion responds to full dosage -20/25 mg/kg per day- griseofulvin FP, prolonged till regression of the inflammation and regrowth of the hair (50-75 days). Antibiotics per mouth are justified in case of localized suppurating phlogosis, contrasting with the improvement of the remaining lesion. Topical and systemic corticosteroids are sometimes useful, but they can delay healing and favor infection.
