Abstract

Lichen simplex chronicus or neurodermitis is a localized, chronic eczematous disorder due to reiterated scratching. It is rare in children but it can be seen at the end of the first decade. It prevails in females. The affected patients can be atopic and present atopic dermatitis in their history. Otherwise, they can be free from atopic disorders. In the latter case sometimes initial triggering factors such as insect stings are put in evidence.
