Concomitant plane warts and molluscum contagiosum.

Abstract

Plane warts and even more molluscum contagiosum are two frequent infections. Their natural history is different because the virus of molluscum contagiosum remains in the organism until the immune system learns to neutralize it; until that moment recurrences in the case of removal are the rule; however, after its regression, which requires several months, no recurrence can be observed and exceptionally molluscum contagiosum is diagnosed in adults. On the other hand, HPV remains in the body for a lifetime so that after the regression of warts recurrences are not exceptional even years later.
Bearing in mind their natural history, plane warts and molluscum contagiosum are treated in various ways more for psychological reasons than with the intent to induce healing.
Despite their frequency, so far we could not simultaneously observe the two infections and even in literature we did not found similar cases.
